Let's play catch up!

Ok ... so I may have mentioned Lawyer is out of town. That makes me a little loopy! Not that I understand why ... he is always late and seems too tired to pitch in at night, but somehow I found that helpful. Like I said ... not sure why!!! My friends make sure that I breathe smoothly each and every day. Without their help and unending support I would be Scary Mom!!! Thank you June Cleaver, Sporty Spice, Lefty, Nantucket and MAC. It truly takes a entire village to raise children!!!

Ok ... to recap the last few days ...

Comcast Cable - their logo should read ... Give us all your money and we will have to come and work on your system almost daily! Ok, so we have Comcast Cable, High Speed Internet, Telephone and DVR services. And the repair guy has been here so many times the last couple of weeks that the neighbors must think I am sleeping with the guy! It is unreal!! At the moment I can make outgoing calls, but not get incoming calls ... can receive emails, but not send them ... get all channels downstairs, but not all of them in the den ... record shows on the DVR, but not watch any of them. Seriously? This is what I pay $120 a month for? He is coming back yet again tomorrow!

The Tudors ... I love this series! The Other Boyeln Sister was the best book I ever read and the Tudors series on Showtime is SO GOOD!!! But, beware ... it is juicy and quite scandalous!! I finished the first DVD and am on to the next three episodes later this week.

Basketball for 6 year olds - painful! One of the moms at yesterdays game put it so clearly! We spend all our time teaching them to share, be polite, don't hit and don't yank things from others. Then we put them onto the basketball court and expect them to do just the opposite. No wonder Little Mister looks at me like I've lost all touch with reality! That sweet kid is struggling to walk and dribble at the same time and then I expect him to also steal the ball without asking politely? I can just see him saying to another player ... excuse me - may I please have that ball?

Anyone elses child have the traffic light system for discipline at school? Well, it goes like this ... you start at green and as you disobey you move to yellow and then to red. The goal ... stay on green. Well, Little Mister is struggling with his own frustration. So, today his traffic light said and I quote ... "Beyond Black". What the hell do I do with that?

This is going to be a very long week! Must get more wine!!

Overcast and overscheduled!

It is Saturday am and very overcast! It is very cold and wet and is the kind of day you want to hunker down and watch movies by the fire! But, no hope for that ... it is a crazy day for me!!! We have to pick up Little Lawyer from a sleepover at 9:30, Basketball at 11:00, a double birthday party at 2:30 and tons of errands to try and squeeze in! I must say I am really looking forward the birthday cakes today. June Cleaver always orders the best cakes ... and my thought is two birthday cakes, must try both ... right? At least a small slice of each! I was trying to run before Lawyer left for work, but he left way too early for me!!! I was also hoping he would make me coffee before he left ... but no go for that either! He makes much better coffee than me. I think it is just because I did not have to make it! Currently I am a trial widow and will remain that way for atleast the next 3 weeks! As long as I do not get too worn out I will be quite productive!!! But, at the moment I am pooped! I need some water, some B vitamins and a bowl of oatmeal and then I should be ready for this day! Think of me today and the next couple of weeks ... being short one parent can be taxing for all! Lawyer is not the best help in the evenings with his crazy schedule, but one can always hope. And then there is Sunday afternoons that I get to disappear for a while. Oh, well ... there must be an up side!

Went to see the cutest movie last Sunday night ... 27 Dresses! If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it ... the cutest movie I have seen in a while. It seems all the movies out right now are heavy ... this one is not! Great movie ... very fun! And take your friends that you can whisper and gossip with ... even better!

No famous life for me please!

No thank you! I would never want to be famous! Not for one minute would I want the happenings of my life to be plastered anywhere! Plus, to top it off ... I am not exciting at all! What would you see in the mags ... me at the gym (very scary site), me at the kids school (could be a scary outbreak with the kids involved), me at Little Mister's therapy, me driving through Starbucks (the same thing every time), or me running errands. BORING with a capital B.

I love Heath Ledger and will miss his movies terribly! He was talented and not to mention SEXY!!! I am very sad he is gone ... But, it is just one more reminder to me that I would not want to be famous for even one day!

Famous designer ... now maybe that would be cool.

Why am I blogging all day today you ask yourself? Well, Babycakes is under the weather and has tucked herself in for a power nap. That means way too much time for me ...

Hello Lover!

A little surfing online this morning has produced a little something which is washing away the yuck of yesterday ...

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/28240674/c/129645.html

Nothing like a little retail therapy!

The first word of special needs is SPECIAL!

So this week is school conferences week. Both of my conferences were yesterday. We have 45 minutes with each teacher to hear how each child is doing. I adore both of my boys' teachers. They are great teachers and are both really committed to their jobs. Little Mister's teacher arrives each morning at 6 am to get organized for the day and Little Lawyer's teacher stays so late the custodian waits for her to leave each night to lock up! We have been so pleased this year (and basically every year) with their teachers and their progress. Little Lawyer's conference went exactly as I expected. He is very bright, works hard, great example to others, thrilled about the Robotics Team, loving the Gifted Program ... etc. Little Mister's conference went well, but these are always very hard for me. He works hard and is a great kid, but he has a lot of things working against him. When they put them into words I always feel like I have been hit with a ton of bricks. I know what my baby deals with and how frustrated he gets, but there are times I truly believe he is pretty close to "normal". He has more good days now then bad ones and sometimes I actually get to belive he is a "normal" six year old. Even though this year has been a huge success, he is still struggling. Every time I have to sit down and discuss what he struggles with I am heart broken. If he chose to be an average student that would be one thing, but to only be able to be an average student is another for me. His teacher feels his is doing really well, but will always struggle to be the middle of the pack. I was a bright child with great motivation! I did not have to work for my grades. I could remember information and studied very little! I did not appreciate this at all. I truly regret that!
After struggling all evening with all the things his teacher and I discussed I have been able to step back and look at the big picture ...
1. He is fully included into the regular curriculum far before we thought he would be.
2. He is performing academically just like an average kindergartener!
3. He is not relying on his special ed assistant as much I as I thought he would.
4. His teacher and all the support staff adore him.
5. He is a hard worker.
6. He is a perfectionist.
7. He is now going to therapy one day a week instead of the original three days.
8. He is truly special!
The rest of the information just doesn't matter. He is a great kid. He has made such a large jump in his abilities in the last eight months with therapy. He struggles, I struggle ... but he is doing well! Last night before dinner he made a painting on the computer. It has a blue background with a red heart in the middle. The center of the heart has my name in it in his adorable handwriting! I found it this morning when I sat down at the computer! Yes, he struggles and I struggle ... but I wouldn't trade him for anything!

My kids actually like each other?

Are we serious? For some reason ... and trust me I am not questioning why ... my kids have played togther all afternoon! Except for one very minor scuffle ... they have been GOLDEN! Maybe they are exhausted from the weekend of snow, maybe they are afraid to fight, but whatever the reason, I LOVE IT! It means I actually get a few moments to myself and I get to watch them and smile! I was fun Mommy and took them to Blockbuster. They each got a movie and I snagged three for myself. I am thinking the next three nights will be movie night for me! Lawyer is busing preparing for trial and has not snuggle time for me! As we returned home I heard Little Lawyer say to his younger brother ... Want to come to my room and watch a movie with me? After I picked myself up off the floor from the shock ... I snuck to the office and have been surfing online ever since! Oh, this is pure heaven!!!

Tonight's selection ... The Tudors Season One! Any one seen this series on Showtime?

A warm blanket, a fire, a large glass of wine and Henry VIII ... awesome!

Lazy Sunday ... oh so yummy!

Game night was SO much fun! We have such a great group of friends and our time together is so easy and always filled with so much laughter! We had a group of six couples ... Hair Girl and Paint Boy had to stay on the West Side due to the crazy weather! A roaring fire, amazing food and Hot Buttered Rum to top off the evening! I have never had this very yummy drink ... but it immediately made the list for a winter must have! Maybe it was just that everything tastes better at the Cleavers! We played a very fun game (after bending the rules to meet our needs) and June Cleaver took all! We all had to answer questions and one person had to guess which answers belong to which person. Her question ... If you could have one person come to dinner who would you choose? There were 12 of us and she guessed 6 correctly! Pretty amazing! All in all a GREAT night!

Ok, the fabulous photo above is my spring project ... this is a photo from Southern Living that I found on a great blog ... http://www.5bickies.blogspot.com/. We have a very big bay window in the kitchen that looks out onto the deck. I would love to have window boxes to enjoy all year long. I love the fact that these are black ... even better! I need to forward this picture on to my dad to see if he can make them for me! I am not a gardener, but I am thinking this small space I can handle!

Enjoy your Sunday ... I am headed to the movies tonight. I have some laundry to finish and some vacuuming (this word is hard to spell!) to do! No rest for Consuela! That lazy maid needs to be fired ... this house is dirty!

1.19.2008

Oh, the weather outside is delightful!

So loving the weather! It was absolutely beautiful this morning snowing. Our whole neighborhood looked amazing with its dusting of snow! Taking care of some errands this afternoon I almost felt like I was driving around in Colorado! But, now it has stopped and it is starting to melt ... so very sad!

But, game night is only two hours away ... wahoo!!!

Inclement Weather for game night?

Saturday morning ... we are waiting for inclement weather! I am never sure in Georgia what this means. The news people always over plan and the stores clear out of all their bread, milk and bottled water. Seriously folks ... this is Georgia, not Maine!

Tonight is game night at the Cleavers! So, so fun. All of our friends are gathering for a yummy dinner and games at the Cleaver house. I am so excited and the day will drag on forever! But ... I have laundry to catch up and a photo project to finish on the stairs, so today should be a productive day! I will post photos once the photos on the stairs are finished. I have to say, I am loving it! Being stuck in the house yesterday with a sick Little Mister gave me a start to this project and I am hoping to finish it today. I have been wanting to do this for so long, I can not believe I am finally pulling it together.

So, 11 hours to game night. I have so much to do!!! A house to tidy and projects to finish. Ofcourse, while I am dodging all the inclement weather ...

Sex in the Burbs?

Ok … this was and will remain the best show on TV! I loved every minute of it. The one liners, Mr. Big, the clothes, the fashion, the token gay man, the friendships and the broken parts of each part of each girl. It was the perfect show! My best friend and I decided one day to pick which character we were like. She is definitely Carrie and I was a mix of Charlotte and Carrie. I sure do miss my SATC! I am convinced one day that my dear friends and I will be able to meet for drinks on Thursday nights at a fabulous bar very close to home or even better for breakfast on Saturday mornings. We will be able to dish and bond in a deeper way than we can now. We are very close, sometimes even raising each others kids and cleaning each others houses. Isn’t that the real definition of close friends? But our kids and crazy schedules keep me from working out that weekly meeting! I am, however, ever hopeful that it will one day work out. Until then I am stuck with my DVDs (yes, I do have every episode) and my Cosmopolitans alone at home!
I have enjoyed the new Cashmere Mafia, but it does not quite measure up. Nothing can beat Carrie Bradshaw and her craziness! Sometimes watching her life was almost painful. Kind of like mine. I feel terrible for those who watched me fall off the treadmill at the gym yesterday. It was awful! June Cleaver was very sweet ... she waited until much later to laugh at me. I am still holding out for Lipstick Jungle ... will it be as good? Me think not, but there is always hope!

In the mean time, here is a website for you to check out …

http://www.sexandthecityquotes.com/

You will love it … and I will leave you with this one …

Carrie: Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love you the way you love, well, that's just fabulous!

Snow! and Social Retards!!

I am awake at crack-thirty this morning while the rest of the house is sound asleep! Last night's winter weather was amazing! Driving home from therapy late yesterday afternoon we were treated to some snow flurries! Then ... down it came! You would have thought we lived in Colorado with the way the snow was falling! The boys played and played and played until I thought they would collapse in the entry way from exhaustion! They were even out playing way after dark and I had to peel Little Mister out of the yard at 8 pm! He was half frozen, more than tired and still playing HARD!!! Ofcourse ... they are all sleeping soundly and hoping they wake up to more snow and ice and school closed for the day! I have news for them ... School is open and I am free for the day!!! I was quite concerned last night that I would be entertaining three kids today ... but lucky for me ... school is on! Oh, Little Lawyer will be so devastated! And that should make for a great morning! Nothing like a very grumpy, hormonal 11 year old! I should start coffee know to be well awake by 6:30!!!

Yesterday while picking up the boys at school I encountered a Socially Retarded Mother. Now, the kids had gotten into a little disagreement and as you all know those disagreements are pretty normal! And so it went like ... I would sell you if I could ... I would sell you on ebay ... I would sell you on ebay...you don't even know what ebay is ... yes I do ... no, you don't and you shouldn't use words you don't understand ... yah, yah, yah! And me thinking as the parents are gathering in the entry way of the school now that it is 2:00 pm ... let us get the Hell out of here! So, then Little Mister decides he is throughly mad at Little Lawyer, throws his glasses and it is now CRAZY!!! There are people ducking the glasses and they are all staring! So, I bend down to retrieve the very small glasses before they get trampled and this Socially Retarded Mother says to me ... "I would be mortified if my kids behave like that!" Like I am not? Seriously? It always amazes me how people lack the tact gene! When is it ever ok to let the thoughts we have running around in our heads to come out of our mouths? Over the course of the last 6 1/2 years I have been victim to plenty of unsolicited comments from the strangest people. Having a special needs child who is emotionally immature can make for some interesting situations ... but I handle them and we move on! I do not need any help from people I do not know! So ... unless you are plan on handing me a large glass of wine or something in a rocks glass, please let me parent my own kids!

Off to get the coffee ... have a great day and stay warm!!!

OMG ... I have been linked!

It is a glorious day! I have been added as a link onto one of my favorite blogs ... clemson girl and the coach! She is uber hysterical! I have said it before, but it needs to be said again ... if she lived next door we would be BFFs. She says things I only say to myself in my head. I highly recommend you read her blog regularly ... you will love her! Check it out at www.clemsongirlandthecoach.blogspot.com.

Ok ... day 2 of the hair on fire cleanup. I have not been to the gym yet this week and I am feeling a little guilty. But, I have accomplished so much that I should be done tomorrow and back on track for working out in the am. I got so much done yesterday and was so pooped last night when I finally crashed at 12:01 am! Tree down and packed up, basement cleaned out and run to Goodwill, paperwork filed and cleaned out, laundry finally put away from a week ago, kids fed, bathed and tucked in ... tons more that I can not even think of! Such a great day!!!

Today ... another good one. UPS, Home Depot (a lot of useless stuff which I NEEDED!!), private school meeting, mail sorted, more laundry put away and last and most exciting ... photos in frames for the stairs. Still working on that one ... trying to make the most of the Aaron Bros buy one get one for a penny sale. I would be nice to finally get all those expensive sitting photos of the kids hung up and out of the chest. We got them all dressed up and made us all suffer through those sittings ... probably need to reep the benefits! I swear when I walk into Aaron Bros and begin choosing frames and laying them out on the floor they seem to look at me weird ... can't figure out why. But... a note to my friends ... if you need frames you might want to avoid the location in the Woodlawn plaza, it is Picked. Over. Can't remember by whom ...

Do I smell burning hair?

Oh, yes it is Monday and I am thrilled to be back into a school schedule! This should probably read ... it is Monday and messy Lawyer is out of my hair until Friday night! I do love him, but he is a walking mess maker. How I survived life with him before the ADD meds I will never know! It is only 8:29 am and I am already running around here like I am on fire. Wow ... it is going to be a great day!

I am loving the gym membership ... but my house is showing it. Somehow every time I leave the gym my to do list gets pitched. I walk out of there with the WTF attitude. As in I have worked out and lets PLAY!!! It is not good ... my house is SCARY. And I am not known for the SCARY house, so I must concentrate today on pulling it together. I do not function unless I am Monica Geller! So, as they used to say when I worked retail ... "She is running around her like her hair is on fire!" I must straighten ... oh, and put the Christmas tree away. If I wait on Lawyer it will be up for July 4th! Thank God it is fake ...

Oh, and make some time today to read www.clemsongirlandthecoach.blogspot.com ... I am sure if she lived next door we would be BFFs for sure. The best kind of friend ... one who can poke fun at themselves! Love her!!!

Have a good one ...

Sporty Spice beat us all!

We had so much fun last night! But as June Cleaver says we would have a great time together in a paper sack. She's right, I have the greatest friends! After sleeping in this morning (pretty late) and a strong cup of Henry's Blend I am ready to dish the details! June, Sporty Spice, Leftie, Hair Girl, California Girl and I loaded up in the minivan and head out! (We really need a going out car that doesn't scream ... Watch out here comes the MOMS!) We started with apps and drinks at the Blue Grotto in Sandy Springs. It was a last minute suggestion from Leftie and a great one! But ... since we did not have ressies we had to wait. After a round of drinks and another round on the owner we were giggling quite a bit! So much so that a sweet little woman came up and asked us if we were having a bachelorette party. Am I painting the picture for you? Pretty scary! Blue Grotto is super yummy and very well priced. We had a great round of tapas and another round of drinks and were off to bowl!

When we got to the bowling alley we had to wait, so we decided to play pool. Hair Girl and I were solids and June and Sporty Spice were stripes. Hair Girl and I took them until she scratched! Totally sucked! But we laughed so hard the bar people almost threw us out thinking we had been way over served! Not really, just a group of very silly girls laughing at our ability to make pool look really stupid!! We had a blast.

Our lane was ready and off to bowl! We all did ok for stay at home moms, but clearly Sporty Spice completed kicked ass. We have decided she rocks in anything athletic ... which I do not! I usually can hold my own in bowling ... but last night I came in 4th out of 6! Yuck oh!!! Lawyer said it may have to do with the fact that I smelled like a brewery! His comment ... "did you even know which lane you were on"? I am not sure I get his point!?!

Super Saturday and ... STRIKE!

Ah ... Saturday! I think my favorite morning of the entire week, except maybe for Monday when organization once again kicks in! This is going to be a glorious day! I am feeling great this morning and ready for the weekend!! On today's schedule ...

Yummy coffee - check!
Breakfast of oatmeal - check!
Blog - working on it!
Make beds
Start laundry
Workout - waiting for June Cleaver to confirm
Basketball at 10:00
Drive thru lunch
Chiropractor at 12:00
Playdates for kids
Workout - if this morning does not work out!
Laundry, Laundry, Laundry

Then ... FUN!!! Tonight is the night that my friends and I are going bowling for my birthday. Our plans over the week have changed (oh, so many times) but we are set for 8 pm for bowling and dinner. I am quite sore from working out this week. I know ... can you believe it? I joined the Gym on Wednesday and so far have been twice. Today will make three for the week ... pretty impressed with myself! Of course, my friends pretend to pass out every time I walk through the doors ... but I am there! Babycakes is falling in love with the childcare, so all should be good. She tried to strip yesterday while she was there ... so she must be feeling completely at home! Any place she goes with her best friend Curls becomes the best place ever! Much easier for me to sell! I might not even have to bribe her with lip gloss next week.

So, the guy teaching Pilates is too funny! He used to be a back up dancer for Justin Timberlake and must have called us girl a hundred times. It was tons of fun and my abs ache way too much today! But, all in all a success!

Stay tuned tomorrow for the bowling report! I am pretty good, so I am thrilled! I mean pretty good considering I have terrible depth perception! Hopefully my sore tummy won't get in the way of my moves down the lane. Thank God Lawyer is not going ... Fred Flinstone always gets in the way of a good score. All those years on the bowling league makes him think he can still bring in the big numbers. What a geek he was! Personalized bowling shirt and all. Can't you just see the spread color crazy shirts? Oh, no wonder he is afraid of spread color shirts now!

Anyway ... off we head at 8 pm! You know we will be the hotest people there! Us girls all gussied up at the alley. I am thinking we will STICK OUT! Hee, hee ... stay tuned for details!

Oh, so sunny!

Oh ... yes! Back to the real schedule! I am sorry there was no blog yesterday. Thursday is my longest and hardest day and I crashed at promptly 7:45 pm last night. Thank God for TIVO!! It was a very productive day, but exhausting. Our middle child, Little Mister, has therapy on both Wednesdays and Thursdays that end up eating all the time from 2 pm when I pick him up from school until 5 ish when I return home. It sounds not so bad unless you figure in the 20+ minute trip to and from which always involves some sort of traffic delay. Add in some fussy, tired kids and the ever grumpy Little Lawyer and it becomes almost toxic! But, it is over for this week and the weekend is looking oh, so sunny! And the upside of it all? After eight months of therapy we are about to see the end of the Wed/Thur craziness! I will be so excited to tuck that one away in the completed pile!

2. Freckles are cute!
3. Boys are not important … travel!
4. Pick great friends to last a lifetime!

I learn so much about myself with these sorts of things. I recently compiled a list of 100 things about myself ... oh, so enlightening! I learned I am very anal (kind of already knew), kind of rigid and way pickier than I would have thought I was. Maybe 2009 will be the year of relaxing! 2008 is already the year of getting in shape! If you have never done this ... do it! You will be glad you did!!! Maybe if I get up the courage I will ask Lawyer to make a list of me for me. I am afraid to read that one ... it would say things like ...

Freaky anal, morning person (yuck!), doesn't eat anything fun, grumpy after a long day with kids, Makes me pick up after myself ... yah, yah, yah.

Never mind - don't need the hastle! Have a great day ya'll!

The grass could be browner!

As I look at the list I started yesterday and realize that the day seemed not quite what I planned it to be ... I have to wonder what the hell happened? I walked around aimlessly for hours not able to get done what I wanted to do. I pictured myself running around the house and town like a girl with my hair on fire catching up on all the stuff I have put off since the kids got out of school. Well, it did not happen and I was very perplexed as to why. Then it hit me ... I am Meredith Grey! I am broken! Without giving you too much disgusting detail, I will tell you that I spent the better part of last year working very hard on a relationship that should have come much easier! As I started this year I was devastated to discover that relationship is not where I thought it was. I thought I had mad so much head way and the truth is ... not so much! It sucks! It has got me very sad and weepy and I must shake it off!!! But the good news is that when you realize things and speak them out loud they can no longer hold on to you. (Learned that in therapy - told you broken!) So now I have said it and I must work really hard to walk away from the hold this is having on me! Oh, and I also need to focus on the parent I want to be to my kids ... this too will help me! Isn't it amazing how little tiny people can do so much to heal us if we let them?

Ok, so you ask ... why the photo of Britney? Well, my 2008 could be so much browner ... I could be her! And right now being that train wreck is bad, bad! So ... to look to the bright side ... I am much greener than that grass!

On a totally different note ... here are some questions for you ...
1. I give you money and send you into the grocery store to pick up 5 items. You can only pick one thing from the following departments.. what is it?
a. produce
b. bakery
c. meat

2. Let's say we're heading out for a weekend getaway. You're only allowed to bring 3 articles of clothing with you. So, what's in your bag?

3. If I was to listen in on your conversations throughout the day, what 5 phrases or words would I be most likely to hear?

4. So, what 3 things do you find yourself doing every single day, and if you didn't get to do, you probably wouldn't be in the best mood?

5. We're talking a 3 hour block with nobody around. What 5 activities might we find you doing?

6. You just scored tickets to the taping of any show that comes on t.v. of your choice. You can pick between 4, so what are you deciding between?

7. You're hungry for ice cream. I'll give you a triple dipper ice cream cone. What 3 flavors can I pile on for ya?

8. Somebody stole your purse/wallet…in order to get it back, you have to name 5 things you know are inside to claim it. So, what's in there?

9. You are at a job fair, and asked what areas you are interested in pursuing a career in. Let's pretend you have every talent and ability to be whatever you wanted, so what 4 careers would be fun for you?

10. If you could go back and talk to the old you, when you were in high school, and inform yourself of 4 things, what would you say?

This will be my therapy for the day ... I will give you my answers tomorrow!

Vaca is over!!!

Oh, people it is 8:00 am and two of the kids are off to school! In less than an hour we will be leaving for preschool and then the real party begins! The funniest part of the morning ... my oldest child, Little Lawyer, says to me this morning ... "Why on your calendar today does it say Kids Go Back To School with an explanation point?" Are you kidding me ... he must ask? Oh, stay tuned? This day will totally rock!

Black-Bottom Coconut Bars

Found these this morning on the Martha Stewart website! Yummy!! I love coconut and with a brownie style bottom it should be perfect! Not sure how this works into my restrictions, I mean resolutions! I would love to squeeze this recipe into today's schedule. Not really sure how to work that and continue to keep the little ones from killing each other. It is only 10 am and they are already restricted to one on each floor. Thank you Lord for three stories! I promise not to complain today about the big house and cleaning it!! One more day and they are all back to school! Happy Birthday to me!! This would be the perfect day for the cook I have always wanted to start working!

38 and Great!

As I came upstairs from blogging the birds were still chirping from my ideas of a great day. Then the ugly stepsisters from Cinderella broke in and reality hit. Lawyer was on his way to the store and to get me the “perfect” bagel. In the time he was gone – read forever – I made the bed, straightened the den (twice), washed and folded two loads of laundry and calmed two, no three fights between the boys. I swear he makes those bagels instead of running down to the shop and ordering them. When he returned with a car load of groceries, remember the veggie lasagna, and the bagels we had a fabulous breakfast! Bagelicious does make the perfect everything bagel! I had my third cup of coffee, and my third daily (can you believe it?) and then folded another load of laundry! We are rocking with fairy tale excitement now!

I straightened the basement while Lawyer bathed the kids – read made a scary mess upstairs! I swear he thinks he lives in a house with a permanent housekeeper! Clearly, he does not, but he has yet to notice. I know I am strange, but tidying up the house brings me great peace! Yes, I am secretly Monica Geller … ok maybe it isn’t so secret! We had to wait an extra thirty minutes for Lawyer’s Metro Man jeans to dry. I must get that man more than one pair. He is now addicted to them and this waiting around for them to be clean is killing me! Babycakes was dressed to go in her prosti-tot jeans (another story entirely) and we loaded up the five of us and added my dear friend MAC and off we went. All went great!

Pizza and Sam Adams – check! The best ever! J
Park – we decided to skip (remember the long wait for Lawyer’s jeans?)
Lovely drive thru Virginia-Highlands and Morningside with lots of envy – check!
Kid’s movie time – check!
Latte and magazines with MAC – check!
Veggie lasagna – super yummy!
Chocolate cake – even yummier!

With the exception of the lack of contact with my parents and the best friend - a very good day! Can’t start the New Year dark and twisty, so I will need to shake that off! June Cleaver has organized all my sweet friends to take me bowling on Friday night at Atlantic Station. We will have so much fun! I will laugh until my sides ache! They are the best ever! Here’s to 38!!!

The Big 38!

I can remember being a young and counting the days until my next birthday! I could not wait to be older and have a family of my own. Oh, to be small and naive again. Now I just pray the kids are not sick, Lawyer is not buried at work and has let me to fend for myself , I get to relax (some!) and the kids all get along without any major wars! One bad thing about having a birthday so close to Christmas (oh there are so many) is the kids are still home from school. Not just home from school, but the last few days of their break when they have already out played all of their Santa toys and are now fighting with comments like ... "he is breathing my air". Sweet Jesus save us all! One more "fine!", "Iwant a new brother/sister" or "I'm going to pray for a different family!" and I will be taking the day to myself with shopping, lunch and a late movie! Actually is it going quite well ... I got to sleep in (which I never do), have had a yummy cup of coffee, and am now blogging as Lawyer is searching for veggie lasagna recipes on his laptop. All is going well! Much better than expected!! I just have to maintain a status quo and all will be a great day.

I am hoping to get to lunch at this super yummy pizza place in Virginia Highlands. When I was single and living the Atlanta life I lived behind Everybody's Pizza in midtown. The food is amazing as well as the location is prime! But I am not sure the feel will be the same with three kids and a Yukon XL. But it is worth a try. I just need to lower my expectations and order a large glass of wine and all will be great! Finish that off with some time at Piedmont Park with the kids and their new remote control toys. Then they should be worn out enough to enjoy some tv time while Lawyer is making dinner and I am surfing through my new trashy magazines and a grande nonfat latte. Oh, this day is sounding perfect! Put the kids down early, watch a great movie, play some Scrabble (my new favorite game), more wine and early to bed! Maybe Lawyer will even let me win ... do not ever play with someone who scored a near perfect score on the Language section of the SAT!!! Even losing and getting to use most of the triple word scores will boost my ego!

The perfect day ... I will let you know how it works out!

Resolutions or Restrictions?

Ok, I have been inspired after reading my favorite blog Sippy Cups are For Chardonnay, www.sippycupsareforchardonnay.blogspot.com, and I am coming up with my resolutions for 2008! My thought is if I post them then I have to do them. All my friends will notice if I am not and will rag on me! Nothing worse than being outed!!!

Ok here goes:
1. Exercise! - I hate this word and it hates me, but I need to do it to be healthy and in shape. I have said it and now June Cleaver is going to ask me when I am joining the gym. Phone should be ringing soon ...
2. Water - I used to love to drink water and would drink it until I floated away. Now it seems having three kids has forced me to switch to sweet tea for the caffeine and sugar! Can't let the little ones get ahead of me or they will one day tie me up and run the country. (Atleast Babycakes would!)
3. Read more - It is not that I don't read but I seem to only read special ed books. These can really drag you down. I need to read more hip books so my friends won't be having conversations above my head. I never like those times!
4. Shop less - probably not a good thing that my friends can have me paged at the local TJMaxx if I can not be reached via cell phone! Plus Lawyer would love it and we all want better marriages!
5. Write more letters - My grandmother says that letter writing is a lost art. She is right! And she would love it if I sat down and wrote to her. I definitely do not want to have any regrets!
6. Get my list of house to dos done - I am tired of driving in the driveway and seeing something I want to do and not doing it! It is time to tackle the list! Beware Lawyer - all that time not shopping will be fixing things around the house. Scary!!!
7. Be content! - Big one, don't know how to start this without a bag from the local TJ - but I am willing to try! :)

Ok, I have said them out loud ... here's to sticking to them and getting them done. At least now that they are posted I can't say I lost the list! Hee Hee!

Friends and Toasting the New Year!

What a fabulous dinner party! How can you beat good wine, amazing food, great friends and tons of laughter? We had such a great time and are still enjoying great food as leftovers tonight! Lawyer of course got tons of compliments on his Bourbon Cajun Beef Tenderloin, no surprise to anyone, and his is still glowing with all the great reviews! If I only ate meat I too could gush over his efforts ... but I do not!! Do love the smell, though.

I learned a lot about myself and my friends this year. Some of which I would like to share!

1. Pick the people who will be totally ok with you not being ready on time. Even better ... pick the ones who are thrilled at the chance of drinking wine in your bathroom while you dig through your closet where you have "nothing to wear".
2. When your hairdresser is your friend she will do your hair in exchange for a drink! Got to love salon hair!
3. When times get tough, the real true people in your life are the ones standing with you offering you tissue, nose spray and wine!
4. Pick great friends you can look up to and admire as the most amazing people!
5. I am truly blessed! I have great friends that make me feel that I am as strong as I want to be!

Friendship ... nothing better than great, dear friends. I hope my kids are always as blessed as I am!
