Hump Day Eats & Drinks ... #tybeeisland

When we scheduled our trip to Tybee Island I contacted a local friend and Savannah native Amanda of Dixie Delights for the low down on eating and drinking in the area.  She was fabulous.  She gave me the name of every single place to eat, what day to go and what to order!  It was like my very own Tybee concierge!

We left town on Saturday at noon and I had mapped out our list of restaurants and days to eat there!  Since I was about 24 hours post nerve block shots I was thrilled to be eating out more and cooking less.  It was a great plan to have in place!!

Saturday evening we headed to Huca Poos for pizza and beer.  The atmosphere reminds me of a joint.  A hole in the wall you frequented in college.  Beer is served in small clear plastic cups, the phone on the wall has a long curly cord and the bar flies are regulars.  Lawyer and I immediately fell in love with every single aspect of it.  While we waited for our pizza to arrive the kids played games outside and ate us out of quarters to play Mrs. Pacman.  Highly recommend the pizza.  They serve one size, 18" which will serve your whole family and costs a mere $15.  The table behind us ordered the nachos, they looked amazing, and Lawyer ordered some sketchy hot dog, chili, jalapeno concoction which he devoured!  We give this place a solid A.

Sunday we hit Spanky's for lunch and Amanda's recommendation of chicken fingers and spuds!  It was perfect after a morning of walking on the beach and geocaching!  They are known for their beer battered chicken fingers and beer battered sliced potatoes "spuds".  I was craving fish and the middle child wanted chicken so we ordered both and he and I split.   They were both fantastic and I would say I think they need to add a fish/chicken basket to the menu.  Best of both worlds!  This place is perfect for lunch with your sandy feet and flops!  Loved it!!!  A

Wednesday we headed for a place I had added to the list ... Uncle Bubba's Oyster House.  I had been dying to get back for their seafood dip appetizer, fried fish and of course, the key lime pie!!! I am so thankful we didn't wait one more day.  We lucked out and ate at Bubba's on the last day they were open.  The next morning without any notice they closed.  The food at Uncle Bubba's was amazing and sitting outside under the moss covered oaks on the water was heaven to me.  I am sad it is no longer there for residents and tourists but I am incredibly thankful we chose to go on Wednesday or I would have spent the rest of the week crying in my key lime pie!!  A+

Thursday evening we ate at A-J's Dockside.  Tucked on the "bay side" its a quaint little place with ah-MAZING views.  We arrived at 6 and left just in time to walk out to the pier and watch the sunset.  Lawyer loves to photograph sunsets and was happy as could be to be able to sit in the sand and snap away.

Lawyer ordered an appetizer/drink combo with his loaded Bloody Mary.  About 14" tall it contains peppers stuffed with prosciutto and cheese, boiled shrimp, pickled okra, olives, cukes. celery, tomatoes and I am sure something else I could not see.  He loved every bite and every sip.  I ordered the fried scallops and hushpuppies with grits and they were absolutely fabulous.  For me the view here with the best part.  It was chilly the night we went so a light sweater and white jeans was the perfect choice.  The sunset view earns this place a solid B.

Friday we headed into Savannah for some site seeing and shopping!  I was dying to get to the Paris Market and partake in their flavored teas and amazing finds!! After perusing the main floor and making a pile of treasures to take home I headed straight for the cafe for some tea and a lavender cookie.  There are two smells I can't get enough of ... lavender and rosemary!  Some of my friends think I am a grandma with these loves ... I say I am smart!  They were out of the lavender syrup so I chose the elderflower and it was the perfect choice for the day!

I should have taken a picture before I started eating my cookie ... but I could not wait!!  The place is the perfect pop of all things Paris.  The smells are to die for, the treasures are ah-mazing and I could have walked out of there with an entire U-haul full of happies.  I highly recommend the flavored tea and in hindsight I would say get one flavor when you arrive and one flavor to go!  A++

We ordered Huca Poos our last night in town after Lawyer begged to go almost every single day.  He ordered a beer sitting at the bar while he waited for the to go order.  He was happy and I was home sadly packing.  We loved our time in Tybee.  It was the perfect unplugging my mind and body desperately needed!!

I have a list of hits for next time ... and the Tybee Island Social Club and The Breakfast Club are at the top of the list!!
