One Room Challenge ... week 1

Can you believe it?  It's that time again!!

Seriously for me it's like Christmas for 6 weeks twice a year!!  I love posting, working and most of all reading so many amazing people doing some amazing work in their homes!!!

If you aren't familiar with the One Room Challenge ... it is 6 week challenge where 20 bloggers are selected to transform a space from start to finish.  The amazing idea is the brain child of Linda from Calling it Home.  For me ... it has been a wonderful journey that has transformed our Guest Suite in round 1 and our Porch in round 2.

This will be my third transformation. This go round I am working on our Master Bath ... a huge room that has a good foot print but truly no life of its own.  When we first moved in it was covered in red brocade wallpaper and looked a whole lot like a bordello.  I had the wallpaper removed and painted it a nice neutral and that is pretty much the way it has stayed for the last 10 years.  It's time this room got some serious love!

My before pics ...

And no, I didn't worry about fluffing or lighting since it is all sad and all changing!

Oh that space above the shower door makes me ITCH!  I have a design for a fab curtain to dress it all up since ripping out the tile and going all Carrera marble is a big fat no at this point!  Sigh ...

Remove carpet ... barf!!  His cabinet side ... dress up cabinets, new faucets, and add scones to the mirror!

That massive tub needs something done to it.  I would love to add molding to the front of it, but I noticed when taking pics today that it is curved.  I know, 11 years and I never noticed.

Stripe this area, keep chandy and dress up window ... pretty easy!

My counter side ... wall of mirrors and that chair is not working AT ALL!  You will notice one gold pull.  Yep, that's how I roll in the bathroom apparently.  And yes, I do have a Keurig in my master bathroom.  You should to!  It's life changing!

Closet area ... mine is here and his is across from mine!  The towel area needs a little fluff.

Larger pic of my counter area.  Don't you just love the wall of mirrors.  Every time I walk in I can see myself from way too many angles!  This bathroom is large ... I told you!

Straight on picture of the tub area.  Keeping the chandy, moving the window valance to another bathroom and figuring out what to do with that large curved tub area!  Oy ...

My mood board for the space ...

And these are my inspiration pics ...

Don't you love??  Yes, me too!  I keep coming back to this picture for help!

That tub ... yes please!!!

The walls in the outer area will be covered in the Thibault South Seas paper.  Isn't it to die for?  I absolutely love this paper and I am thrilled for the pop of color coming off our chocolate master bedroom!

Here are some snippets of our master bedroom ~

I am planning on taking the same color palate into the bathroom (obviously) so the South Seas paper will be the first thing you see.

From there here is my master plan:

1.  Remove carpet from bathroom (yes, vomit! I have carpet) and replace with sea grass.
2.  Wallpaper
3.  Paint ceiling chocolate
4.  Remove existing mirrors and replace with taller ones
5.  Add crown molding
6.  Repaint cabinets
7.  Change hardware
8.  Shower curtain
9.  Replace existing white blinds with matchstick
10.  Cornice for water closet area
11.  Stripe water closet area chocolate and white
12.  Add sconces on mirrors
13.  Skirt vanity area
14.  New towels with custom monogram
15.  New accessories
16.  Vanity bench
17.  Add custom cabinet to my counter area to break up the extra large counter

Yikes!  A lot to do in six weeks and tons to accomplish with the small budget I have!  Looks like it will be a whole lot of blood, sweat, tears and DIY!!!

I highly recommend you treat yourself to the journey of the 20 invitees.  I sat down last night and blog binged to read each one.  The talent is over the top this season and the rooms will be as well!

  6. Hi Paige -- this is gonna be good! BTW, did you consider Overlays for the front of the tub? http://www.myoverlays.com/ They might be flexible enough to bend on that curved apron, and they have some gorgeous chinoiserie-type patterns that might play nicely with your wallpaper. Can't wait to see how this turns out . . . .

  9. Loved your porch, so I know you are going to hit this out of the park! Carpet in the bathroom...cracks me up every time! You are right that the space is great, I would die for your whole vanity area, but I'm with you, I don't need that much self-reflection in my life. Good luck and can't wait to see more!

  10. Wow that's quite a list you have there! I love your inspiration photos. That tub with the dark window moldings is so elegant. You can definitely add the woodwork to the front of the tub too :) It will take a little extra work, but I'm sure you can pull it off.

    Good Luck!

  11. I was hyperventilating when I read 'rip out the tile and go with Carerra Marble'. :) LOVE your inspiration and plan, Paige, your bar is set high after you nailed it last time, can't wait!

  12. Gorgeous space to work with. Great bones and quite large. I too was going to suggest overlays, but also you can get lots of different moldings now made of non-wood materials that are SUPER flexible. Lowes and Home Depot both carry.

  13. What a lovely bathroom space this is going to be. I cannot wait to see your progress and how it all unfolds.

I too am participating in the One Room Challenge. My challenges? I just moved to a completely new state (Texas) last week and therefore have no idea where to source things other than Wal Mart and Home Depot. :) I am currently battling strep throat and just want to lay around and eat soup as opposed to painting a 30 year old polyurethaned oak coffered ceiling that has never before seen paint. The accompanying powder room rivals the worst gas station stall ever. But a bonus is that the previous owners installed a wine glass and bottle holder on the ceiling of the bathroom. I kid you not. Come take a peek.

  14. Paige, you had me at "keurig in the bathroom". I want one. Love the chandy so I am happy about that. I have the image with the two bamboo chinoiserie mirrors in my Pinterest. Love. Love. Love. Go rock on.

  15. I had to laugh reading about your red brocade wall paper looking like a bordello. I just started writing my post for Week 2 of the ORC and wrote that the selection of leopard carpet I found looked like it belonged in a brothel!

I couldn't agree more that it's like Christmas! I am enjoying visiting the ORC blogs. I need to find more hours in the day!

    Have fun!

  17. Oh my, our old house had carpet in both bathrooms when we moved in. Totally disturbing! Your inspiration board & photos are amazing. You've got me thinking that my master bathroom should definitely be my spring ORC room. IF I survive this round :)

  18. First of all, to this day, I STILL visit your porch ORC makeover! I love, love it! Your ideas sound wonderful - when this is over, you'll have a wonderful spa retreat in your own home! I can't wait to see the big reveal - I know you will not disappoint.

  21. I think most of us would kill for a bath that large! :) I've never understood anyone putting carpet in a bathroom. Your plan is gorgeous and I can't wait to see the chocolate ceiling along with the stripes and the wallpaper. Do you plan to sleep for the next 6 weeks? :)
