Happy Halloween!!

For years I have steered clear of anything too much for Halloween.  Maybe it is my upbringing or maybe it was me trying not to scare the pants off my own kids, but I was a fun wreath and tons of pumpkins kind of girl when it came to Halloween decorating.  Last year as we Trick or Treated something my youngest said really stuck with me ... "why are we the house that only puts out a wreath for this evening?"  Honestly I couldn't give her a good answer and this year I vowed to take the decorating up a notch, or three!

When I was shopping for fall planters for this post from At Home I spotted this darling skeleton and immediately my creativity kicked in.  I immediately thought of a million ideas and before I left I had filled one cart for fall and one cart for Halloween to create something that would make the kids proud as they tooled past the house to Trick or Treat. After listening to them as I worked on the porch this weekend I think I achieved exactly what I was hoping to create.  We have the scary but yet fun house all prepped for this evening!!

Since I already had styled the porch for fall I didn't want to remove the planters and completely start over, I just wanted to make them a little creepy for the evening.  I love how everything has grown and filled out in just a month's time. I added some dead branches from the yard and black birds and spiders from my shopping trip.  I found these black branches in my stash in the work room from years ago and added them in to make it a little more bulky.  I love the result, and when I am ready to remove the branches I still have my amazing fall planters and a few pumpkins as long as the weather doesn't warm up once again.

The Jack-o-Lantern door mat along with all of the animals (birds, owl and large crows) are a few of the things that filled the cart that day.  I am sure the customers thought I was a bit mad when I was stuffing my cart in late August with Halloween decorations, but when you are inspired you have to run with it!

A Jack-o-Lantern with a fabulous hat?  #yesplease!!  I can't take credit for this idea ... it was in one of the many amazing displays at the store and I feel in love with it!

I have to say dressing Menacing Millicent (my friend Natalie named her) was my absolute favorite part.  I knew immediately she would be wearing a gingham shirt, a tutu and pearls but she is even more amazing than I planned.  Her darling scary head band is also from At Home and it lights up at night.  So much fun ... I can hardly stand it!

I have to make sure I remember she is hanging on the door, every time I walk by I think we have a visitor and I get all excited.  Oh, silly me!!

Of course I had to dress the animals, I mean that is just the way I roll!  Hoot the Owl got a bow tie and the bunny statue got a bow and the crow in Millicent's hand also was treated to a bow tie.  I mean, why wouldn't they be?

The kids helped me with the placement of the rats and the Hubs ran out to find me a creepy light to take it to the next level.  Isn't it fabulous??

You can't see it in this photo, but it is a strobe light and I will admit it is a smidge scarier than I planned. One of my littles said I am not sure the small kids in the hood will even come to see you if you leave that thing on.  Ha ... we shall see!!

Happy Halloween!!

Blue Pumpkins ... #yesplease

You know my heart beats faster when I see blue and white so the thought of amazing blue and white pumpkins is the best idea to me since the invention of sliced bread.  They appeared on my radar a few years ago when I spotted a Dana Mahnke pumpkin on Town & Country.  I mean ... it was life changing.

One Room Challenge || Fall 2016 Week Three

Happy Thursday!!  Holy week 3 of the One Room Challenge better known as the half way do or die point.  This is the point in each of these challenges that I wonder two things.  First, what in the world was I thinking when I made this decision and, second, will this all come together in the end and in time.  Couple of deep breaths and let's move on ...

If this is all new to you or you just joined in let me recap.  I am in the middle of a six week challenge to make over our master bedroom for the One Room Challenge.  You can read up on week one and week two or you can just read on and I will try to catch you up.  I am sitting staring at my den and trying to remember that it is worth it in the end and this is just a hard few weeks that I will forget quickly when it is over.  Sort of like labor.

I am transforming our rather boring master bedroom into a relaxing refuge that encompasses all the things we love and truly speaks to the style we have created together.  Palm Beach chic for the bedroom is the goal and I think I have captured it for us in the style board.  Even though the walls aren't changing color they are changing sheen and this will make the room pop.  Well that and tons of colors and fun fabrics!

This week was all about finalizing fabrics and painting the walls.  I can report I have made huge ground with both areas ... and I couldn't be more excited about both of these things!!  (happy dance)

First off walls ...

As I stated before the wall color did not change but I repainted the room with high gloss paint.  And the change is HUGE as you can see above.  The first photo is an old wall compared to the newly painted wall and you can see the difference the new paint made.  I truly feel the life in the room now as the light bounces off the walls.  What a huge difference two cans of paint and an evening made!!

Walls ... check!!

Fabric ...

This area is huge since almost all of the color coming into the room is coming via fabric.  Luckily for me this amazing Mad Cap Cottage fabrics are the bomb.com!! I am thrilled to have nailed it all down, ordered it and have it ready to drop off at the upholstery spa to be stitched up into every single thing I will need in the room.  I settled on the brighter and bolder trim for the drapery and although it seems like the scarier chose for most I couldn't be happier with the pop of fabulous I need to make these drapes everything I want them to be.  I toyed with ruffle trim and cornices but in the end the bold trim is the right choice.

Fabric ... check!!

As you can see in the picture above I added two amazing bamboo lamps for the room from Couture Lamps.  They arrived yesterday and are currently waiting to be unveiled and moved upstairs.  I can not wait to get these beauties out of their boxes and upstairs into their new home.  When I decided to move the furniture around for the room I was able to rescue my favorite desk that moved to storage during the den makeover.  It will have a huge spot in the new room in a new position and I can't wait to show it to you.  Let me just say this ... its days as a desk are over.  #eek

Sadly I lost the chandelier war in the bedroom and we are keeping the ceiling fan.  I have tried and tried to convince the hubs that we needed a mack daddy chandy for our room and he has told me seven ways to Sunday that it just won't be happening.  My husband never cares what I do to the house so when he finally speaks I truly have no choice but to listen.  This time I may have walked away with my head down and crumbled up all the papers with amazing chandy options.  It is what it is and now I am hunting a fabulous bamboo ceiling fan that I don't hate.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Tons of gathering happening as I am making sure our room includes every single thing we love and truly speaks Minear.  Here are some of the amazing things I have pulled, ordered and gathered this week.

Tons of pups, blue and white porcelain, rose medallion plates and my favorite needlepoint from my dear friend Lance ...

two darling finials from two of my favorite girls ... do you spot it on this lamp?  Yes, those are mine and are ready for their debut in the room!!

I just got the call that my headboards are here from south Florida so it's time for a road trip to the Greyhound station.  So excited to get them home!!  See you next week for a sneaky peeky ...

Are you following along with all of the amazing things happening on Wednesdays?  I am glued to the computer each week. Glued I tell you!!

Make sure you check out the remaining linking participants and check back next week for another update.

The bed will be installed and I can't wait to see it all coming together!!  #yesplease!!

Plaid Done Right with Scot Meacham Wood

You know I love plaid.  As in all plaids, there isn't a plaid I don't love ... truly not a single one.  I mean ... can't you just die with all of that goodness in this photo.  Oh and two more to get you going this Wednesday morning.

Organization 101 for Me

As you probably noticed I am very anal and type A when it comes to my life (as in the stuff) and my schedule.  My family thinks I am wound like a tick and they are probably correct, but I find so much peace in order.  There are so many things we aren't supposed to control (thank you Lord) and I chose to focus on the things I can.  My husband calls me Monica Geller and while this isn't the extent of the reality ... I am perfectly ok with the reference!  I too have gotten out of bed more than once to put one more thing away.

Bar Cart Series ... No.18 Chez V

You know it's my favorite day of the week and I am thrilled to host one of my favorite people today and her incredible style.  I met Emily of Chez V a few years ago online.  Yep, that Instagram strikes again and gifted me another sweet and talented friend.  Emily has an incredible eye and her home is to die for.  The first picture I spotted of her kitchen left me speechless.  She rocks the pattern layering and traditional elements like a rock star.  You will adore both Emily and her fabulous home!

One Room Challenge || Fall 2016 Week Two

WOW!!!  That week flew by like it was shorter than normal, but here we are at week 2 of the Calling It Home One Room Challenge and luckily I have made a ton of progress.  It's the week I normally finalize all of my decisions and make most of the plans for the room to make sure I know what is happening before I hit the ground running.  If you are just joining in you can catch up here on week one.

So to recap ... I am working on our master bedroom taking it from here ...

to something like this ...

We are looking for a colorful space to relax and regroup at the end of each day! I can't wait until it is done and we are relaxing and enjoying our new space. Can we just fast forward to that point?

I have a few goals for the space and in planning everything this week every single one of them was put into play.  First and most importantly, we really want to have a space that reflects what we love most.  Next, it needs to truly be us so that it feels comfortable and relaxing.  A master bedroom needs to be a place of refuge and I am working to create that for us.  And last, it needs a major shot in the arm of color.  Well, maybe major is the understatement of the year.  It is so drab at the moment and I just don't do drab.

So, let's chat about how I will make all of those things happen!!

Color -

Since we have this wallpaper in the bathroom I need to incorporate turquoise into the room.  The walls will remain chocolate but will become high gloss so the color needs to be added with fabric.  I picked both green and pink to add in along with the usual blue and white porcelain.  Since we are both very used to color with childhoods in Florida this is truly what we love.  And yes, my husband loves pink.  I have picked all the fabrics and have narrowed down the trim choices.  I am thrilled with all of my choices.

I picked three fabrics from the Mad Cap Cottage collection with Robert Allen. I have loved this collection since it was released and I am thrilled to be using these fabrics.  They are perfect for us ... and the colors and patterns are fabulous. I can't wait to get all this goodness in the new room!!

Bermuda Bay in Palm
drapery and duvet

Mill Reef in Palm
bedskirt

Cove End in Palm
lampshades, accent pillows

The first fabric will be the dominate fabric and the other two will be bridesmaids.  I love them all and choosing them has made me so excited about finishing this room.  They were the ideal choice to marry my love of patterns and Lawyer's life in Palm Beach county Florida.  And of course I will mix a few others in the mix ... a gingham and a solid.  More information to come later!

I am using the Bermuda Bay for the drapery and I have narrowed down the trim to the two choices above.  I am pretty sure I will pick one of them, but for now I am keeping that little detail under wraps.  I know, I know ... but a girl has to have her secrets!  (oh, and ignore the fabric coloring in the photos above, for some reason it doesn't look right but it is fabulous and green and glorious and not at all yellowy like it appears in my Iphone pics!!)

Since we have dark walls I am trying to decide on exactly what the drapery should be ... and I am struggling a little in this category.  I originally thought we would use cornices, but I have to be able to open the windows to hang wreaths at Christmas so cornices are out.  I know, simple problems but thankfully I realized this before making them and then regretting it all.  I am now deciding between just panels or panels with a fabulous top piece.  I will let you know when I decide.  Here are the photos I have been flipping through and I love them all!!

Aren't they fabulous??  I will make a decision and update you next week, pinky swear!!

Creating a space for us -

We spend a lot of time in our room on the weekends and at night.  Since we have four kids and almost all of them are teenagers it provides us with a little refuge from the chaos of kids everywhere you look.  I love having all of them here but we do need a space of our own to retreat to when the house is full.  We have created a sitting area in the very large room but it isn't working.  I think it makes the room feel weird so I will be adjusting it some.  The chairs will remain, well new ones, but the coffee table is out.  We don't need it and it feels off to me.  Also, we currently have four chairs and I am moving down to two.  Really, four chairs? That is just ridiculous.

We also have two many dressers (three in total) and they are all brown.  One of them is leaving and one is getting lacquered ... and I can't wait.   All the brown is making me itch. On top of the remaining brown gorgeous dresser we inherited from my in laws I am using blue and white from my collection so it will be color infused even though its a wood dresser on a wood wall.  #goodplan

Bed -

I really want the amazing Bunny Williams bed from the design board ... but the Hubs said a big fat NO.  With the wreck from last week and the fact that we have to buy a new car a fabulous bed is not in the plan. So it was back to the drawing board to make another decision. I have chosen a pair of amazing vintage twin headboards that currently en route from south Florida.  I love the idea of using matching twin headboards together and I love the way Meg Braff used them above.  #swoon I gave the Hubs three choices and he picked the bamboo set.  I wasn't shocked one single bit.  They will be amazing and I think it worked out just the way it was supposed to.

There were many other decisions made, here are some sneak peeks ...

Have I mentioned I can't wait to finish this room??  I may be more excited to finish this than any other room in our home.

Are you following along with the 20 designers posting on Wednesday?  I am glued each week!!

Make sure you check out the remaining linking participants and check back next week for another update. The walls will be shiny and the dressers will be changing ... #yesplease!!

I am getting so excited ... time to starting painting!!! #eek
