Happy New Hangover!

... Oh yes, I mean Happy New Year! Atleast it is at the moment for those of us who did not get "over served" last night! Lawyer and I stayed in and did our usual convince the kids it is time for bed at 6:00 and then order takeout chinese and watch a movie! We love it and I look forward to it every year! Our favorite babysitter is College Girl now and always has super cool plans I do not have the heart to ask her to give up and stay with my overtired kids while I go out and get "over served"!! So stay in it is!

This year we invited all friends over for dinner tonight and they are arriving at 7:30. So much to do before then. Let's quickly list it out ...
Lawyer spends forever at the market searching for the perfect Beef Tenderloin
(this will take him forever and he must be alone to chose!)
I need to tidy the house, mop the floors, trade out table settings from Christmas to New Years, clean the bathroom downstairs, chase the kids, chose a fabulous outfit, chase the kids again, made appetizers and keep the house tidy after I straighten it a hundred times!
Where is Lawyer? Still chosing and babying his meat! But it is the best (I hear) and everyone will love it! Surronded by friends is the best way to spend the first day of the new year.
Happy New Year to you all!!!

The Metro Man

After a girls trip to New York City in November to celebrate June Cleaver's birthday, I decided to make Lawyer into a Metro Man. Don't get me wrong he does not dress badly, but somehow the blue and grey of the conservative law office has stripped him of real fashion! So after looking at beautiful man after beautiful man and lots of wine on my part I decided ... I need a Metro Sexual Man! Oh, this would be so hard. He is so stuck in his blue suit, grey suit, white shirt, blue shirt world! Where to start? How much to change? I mean I wanted him to be look great, but not so great that men would follow him home. Oh, that is a fine line!

We started with designer jeans. Now to me this means something all together different, like my new Rock & Republics with the studs on the pockets (Oh, so super cute), but to him this meant Lucky Jeans. He liked them and seemed to wear them at the appropriate times. Great start! Now to introduce the spread collar shirt! You would think I was asking him to go out in a 1970's plaid the way he looked at me. But Metro Man in site ... on I pushed! The kids and I bought him four for work in georgous shades of blue all with pattern. Check! Dryclean and put in closet! Next, the ties! I swear the man would not buy any tie that was not a red power tie. Well, now he owns 12 new ties ... all fabulous and none of them red! Even one pink and baby blue polka dot that Babycakes picked out. She told him it would make his eyes blue ... You go girl...perfect listening skills! Oh, the last step new shoes! We are still working on that one. I am not sure where to start ... I may need some help to convince him on this one. That or an expense dinner, lots of wine and a shopping trip with non returnable shoes. Haven't figured that out yet.

But I can report that Saturday all of Lawyer's family was coming over for dinner and the football game. He was showered, hair gelled and standing in the laundry room in a uber cute baby blue v-neck sweater and plaid boxers. Imagine my surprise as I walked by and inquired as to what he was doing! His response ... "I am waiting for my Lucky Jeans to dry." Seriously? Oh, man my hard work is paying off! He is becoming hooked!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Whatever you celebrate I hope this holiday season is filled with happiness and joy! I have enjoyed my time with my family and my friends and have truly enjoyed this Christmas! Both Lawyer's family and mine have been in town and we have laughed, eaten, played and slept! We get up the next day and start again! It has been exciting and exhausting and I would not trade one moment!

My dear friends have sent me the most beautiful Christmas cards and I treasure them all! It is so great to fill my card basket with their photos and their sentiments. I am always so excited when they start arriving and so sad when the last one is opened! There is nothing more fun at Christmas time then opening up your mailbox and seeing tons of cards waiting to be opened and enjoyed! One I received touched my heart in a special way and I would like to share the sentiment with you ...

Joy!

May this holiday season and 2008 be filled with Joy! Merry Christmas!

My 5 Favorite Things

As this holiday arrives quickly I wanted to share with you some things that have made my holiday season even brighter ...

My makeup – I wear very little makeup and some days none at all. But when I do spend the extra time I am really enjoying my new three favorite things! First is my Bobbi Brown chocolate shimmer gel eye liner. This stuff is golden! It looks great with any eye color and it shimmers … who could ask for more? Next is my Max Factor auburn mascara. My friend June Cleaver hooked me up with this gem! People with fair skin and red in their hair need to purchase this asap!! It makes my lashes look great and my eyes pop. Love this stuff!! Last, my Bobbi Brown clear glitter gloss tube. It is only around for the holidays and is super yummy on! It comes in a three pack with two other colors I will be discovering after the holidays and will be gone with the holiday season. Get it quick girls! Check out Bobbi Brown cosmetics at Nordstrom’s or at www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com

My Hobo wallet!!! I have fallen hard for Hobo this year! These wallets are great and can easily be pulled out of your purse to be used as an evening clutch! Who does not love an accessory that works overtime? My Hobo wallet is a Christmas red patent leather and has a black and white gingham liner. I got it right before heading to New York City with friends and carried the life out of that bag. It now has a permanent home in my new purse. Or at least until I fall head over heals for a different color! Check out their collection at www.hobobags.com
.

Since reading Skinny Bitch I have become a vegetarian. Great book, very, very funny - but if you are in love with your meat do not read!!! Finding snacks that are both packed with protein and yummy has been a challenge. I have discovered a gem at the local grocery store. Planters has a Energy trail mix that has won my heart. Complete with nuts, sesame sticks, chocolate covered soy nuts it satisfies my need for both a salty and sweet snack. It comes in great individual snack bags and paired with a piece of fruit will hold me until my next vegetable infused meal!

Cashmere scarves!!! Need I say more? I have always been a fan of cashmere, but this year I have found a new addiction to it. Who wants to pay the price for cashmere? I am ok paying $100 for a sweater, but not so much for a scarf to match. I bought my first scarf of the season in NYC for $5 from a street vendor. It is an adorable pink herringbone. Super cute and goes with so many things! Why I did not load up all he had that day I will never know! I mean $5 … are you kidding me? When I returned to Atlanta finding more proved difficult. Until I stumbled on a great collection of them at Marshall’s. I have shared with my friends that the Men’s department at Marshall’s has a ton of scarves. And at $7.99 each I now have a very large collection and can be seen sporting one almost everyday!

My new tartan plaid umbrella – Yummy yummy! It was raining today and I was out finishing the last few bits of shopping! Ok, the truth be told, some shopping for me as well! I had not checked the weather or checked with my weather friend so I did not have an umbrella to protect my Christmas happies! As I walked into the Gap this morning what did my wondering eye catch sight of? A red tartan stick umbrella and on clearance to boot! I immediately checked out and popped open my new happy and shopped the rest of the morning! I will love that for years to come. Check out the Gap at

Happy Birthday Jesus!

As I was running around the house this morning straightening, I realized how crazy this season can be! I have been so low key this year in my stress to decorate and have really enjoyed the way my decorating turned out! Our house is a glow with pink, red and lime! It is a my favorite look so far and I will be taking photos to duplicate next year! It is amazing how much you can accomplish when you lower your expectations. I have learned a lot about expectations this year with all our middle child, Little Mister, has gone through. You must accept what comes your way and when you do, all kinds of possibilities open up! I am happier at the end of this year than I have ever been. I am more content and more at peace and all of this has come out of the craziest year we have ever had. Once again, I will say it ... It is amazing what you can accomplish when you lower your expectations!

As I rounded the corner into the living room to see our tree, one ornament stuck out to me. It is my favorite ornament and it sits on the top part of the tree right under the star. It is my Happy Birthday Jesus ornament that I bought a couple of years ago. It is so easy to forget why we celebrate and so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season. This quick moment this morning has reminded me to relax, enjoy and celebrate! Happy Birthday Jesus!!

Will work for pjs ...

Who does not love to come home after a long day of running the kids around and put on a great pair of pajamas. I have to admit, I am a pajama addict! I love a great pair of pjs. Even better are the flannel pairs I have for the winter! So imagine my excitement when my friend Shopgirl gave me a pair of Nick & Nora cherry print capris for Christmas. I was so overjoyed I almost stripped down in the middle of the restaurant to put them on! They are simply adorable and my favorite part is the ruffle on the end of the capri leg. Super cute! I had to wait until getting home to down my new gift and I did so in the middle of the living room while my husband, Lawyer, watched very confused. He looked at me stripping all of my clothes off, tilted his head to one side and pronounced ... "this must be a girl thing". Nick & Nora is my favorite pj designer and used to only be carried in boutiques. They have recently branched out and now can be found at your local Target. The best part about Target is they also carry children's sizes. On a lucky day you can pick up a pair for you and matching ones for the kids! My three year old, Babycakes, and I have a matching pair of flannel Nick & Nora's for Christmas eve. You know I am looking forward to that super cute photo moment!

Shop it to Me!

The only thing better than shopping is having a personal shopper! And I have found one that will let you know when you need to get out that credit card and start charging! You can register with an online site called Shop it To Me, www.shopittome.com, and they will let you know when your favorite items go on sale and where to find them. Simply log on, tell them about yourself and your favorite things and they will alert you when your favorites hit the sale rack. It will keep you from stalking your favorite items waiting for them to go on sale! This weekend I got an email about a sale at Nordstroms and I am headed out today to try on a Diane von Furstenberg gold cocktail dress! They are usually more than I desire to pay, but on sale at $150 it became the perfect New Years party dress! Try out the site ... you will love it! It is my favorite four letter F word ... FREE!!
