I love a good before-and-after; who doesn't? But give me a great before-and-after, and I am wholly invested. especially an old home you found in disrepair and are spending some serious time and energy on it, and I will follow you off a cliff. I have seen many of them online that I am very invested in and happy to share so we can all watch together.
There is a more significant number of projects to watch at this moment, or at least they are sharing more online than you used to be able to find. Remember the days of only seeing things on TV one week at a time and waiting all week to finish your cliffhanger? Oh, the days of agony are so agony that so many will never understand. I love to find a house in progress and be able to stop watching and go back to the hunt and find and start from there. I am beyond intrigued by the people who see these gems abandoned and give them a whole new life. You must love what you do, but I am here for every step.
My favorite project is one I found on TikTok. A darling girl is renovating the prewar New York apartment she has lived in her whole life. She has opened walls that she didn't know existed and even found a brick wall in her kitchen that she didn't know existed. Watching her uncover spaces, dormers, and doors is addicting. I can't imagine renovating in New York and being a fly on their walls is fascinating.
Hattie Kolp hired a Task Rabbit contractor to help her install crown molding; long story short, they are now dating. I am telling you, this story is precious and unique to watch. Plus, she is giving a whole new life to her space. You can follow her on Instagram and TikTok; she is my number 1 favorite.
This house is fabulous. It is a 121-year-old Victorian home purchased and renovated by a couple in Canada. Deborah and her husband write about their journey on B Vintage Style, so you have a lot to peruse. Their renovation budget was only 25k, so I incredibly voted for creativity. One of the blog posts is dedicated to choosing the home to renovate in case anyone is up for the challenge. I am definitely not there, but also not, not there. Helping the girls in Tuscaloosa move into their old home showed me the charm of living in an old house.
But don't tell my husband. If he finds out, he will have me on some land in an old home in mere minutes.
Lastly, another account I found on TikTok is a couple renovating a 100-year-old house. This journey started in June, so getting caught up and following along will be easy. Kristen lives in New Jersey with her husband and their darling dog, Olive. The day they ripped up the carpets and found hardwoods reminded me a lot of doing the same in our first house. I peeled back a corner, and before I knew it, the windows were open, and I was throwing large sections of carpet out into the yard. You can follow along on both Instagram and TikTok, whichever you prefer. The house they bought is genuinely going to be stunning!
I mean, just this image alone, can't you see the potential?
I am definitely inspired, but not quite ready to take on a complete renovation. I think I still have a twitch from our leak two years ago. Ha ...
Happy Monday!
