With the cold snap right around the corner, it is time to check your jackets and grab a new one if need be. This fall has seen a resurgence of the Barn Jacket, and every shop I can think of has released at least one of them. I tried several of them and settled on two, both lightweight, with corduroy collars and pockets.
A barn jacket, not to be confused with a chore jacket, is an oversized, waterproof jacket perfect for farm chores and agricultural chores in colder climates. The chore jacket would be a lighter version, not waterproof, and maybe quilted, that can be used to toss over an outfit or to run out to do chores. It is perfect for everything, including walking the dog to spending a day out and about. This year, most of the versions on the market are not waxed and, therefore, not waterproof. I think my version would be more of a chore jacket in the South.
According to Vogue, whatever the lead designer of Prada debuts becomes a staple in the fashion industry. When Muccia Prada debuted the barn jacket in the Spring/Summer fashion show, it instantly became the talk of the industry. As I stated above, I can not think of a shop or fashion house that does not have one option, if not more, to choose from.
And if Anna Wintour agrees to print it, it must be bible.
I love this one from Talbots and snagged a green one from J.Crew Factory, both lightweight and affordable. I have gathered many other options for you, all of which would fit the bill for the barn or chore jacket.
I will say it is great to hang by the back door to snag on the way out, and I am sure it will get a ton of wear this season and beyond.
Happy Hump Day ...
