Happy Thursday!! I have such a treat for you today ... a second home tour I have joined that I know you will love, it is all about color, Christmas and all things twinkle lights. What could be more fun?
Since a lot of you are coming from Pencil Shaving Studio (isn't her blue + red sooo good!) you may be new readers for me. I hope you stay a while, or forever, I love gathering new readers. A little about me ... I love color and patterns and mixing old and new to create a home for my family. I love my home the most this time of year! After reading this post you must check out the others in the tour. Each of them loves color as much as I do and have really gone all out decorating their beautiful homes for Christmas! You will really enjoy it all so pour a cup of cocoa and enjoy!
I really love our den. When we finished it for the One Room Challenge I don't think I have ever been more excited about a room. It got such a transformation when we lacquered the walls white and every year when we decorate for Christmas I love it even more. As I was sitting in it the other evening just about sunset I realized it was my favorite time to be in the room. Just as the sun is setting the room gets a yellow and pinky glow and it just seems to be in all its glory. At that moment I decided I would shoot it for you at that exact hour. I loved how it felt all cozy and snuggly and it just took on a completely different glow. Honestly, as the Christmas music was playing and everyone was home and working on things in various places of the house it felt like my very own Hallmark movie.
And there was something just perfect about it. So today I have our den all decorated for Christmas shot just as the sun was setting and the twinkle lights were showing off the best. ❤
When my assistant and I were working over Thanksgiving break she helped me pull out all the pieces I wanted to use and decide what colors I would use. I am not a traditional red and green Christmas girl every single year. I love to add in pink, all my favorite things and lots and lots of greenery, wreaths and lights. This year I chose to mix my favorite pinks with all things plaid and I absolutely love the way it turned out. It feels so classic but with a twist of something new. I have wrapped all the gifts in various plaid papers with pink and green ribbons and I truly love seeing each one finished.
Our tree is not yet decorated as we still have one child finishing his college exams. He will be home later this weekend and we have decided that Monday is the day we will decorate the tree with my parents in town and lots of cocoa and Christmas music oh so Hallmark movie. Do you see a theme? Believe it or not it was my husbands idea and I could not love it more. For the time being I added some gold tinsel and am enjoying the simpleness of the pretty white lights.
We added this Grandinroad bench to the den about a month ago and I think it is perfect. It is perfect to sit and enjoy the fire and most days our Jack Russell can be found him warming himself. It is really so very cute. When I saw the bench I knew exactly where I would use it. It would also be perfect at the end of a bed if you love it as much as I do.
The garland I used on the fireplace is one of my favorite things this year. I used lit garland and mixed it with more gold tinsel garland + gold glitter clips and mixed in some of our Christmas cards. Funny enough the ones here are all mostly blogger and Instagram friends. I have such sweet friends I have met here that I simply adore. I really like to see the cards here and in the garland on the front stairs. Usually they sit in a bowl or a box waiting to be flipped through, and this is a much better way to see them all the time.
One of my favorite decorating tricks is tying bows on basically everything. A few years ago I switched to using a lot of satin ribbon and I really like it. It is simply and classic and adds a level of elegance. Right around Thanksgiving I head to Hobby Lobby and Michaels and load up on ribbon for the house, the gifts and every wreath I can get my hands on.
I know you will really enjoy this whole tour ... such talented ladies! You must check out the next home on the tour, Our Fifth House, it is one of my favorites!
