Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a courageous man. Many years later, we are still looking to him for advice, guidance, and poignant quotes to share with others. Dr. King preached and spoke of change, love, and taking the unpopular road. He knew love was the only way, and he was aware we needed a drastic change ... and honestly, I sometimes wonder if anything has changed.

We need to be the change we want to see.  We need to teach our children to do the right thing.  To understand the color and heritage of others.  To stand up when we see injustice.  To speak out when we think something should be different.  To vote and to call and write to those in office.  To never settle and never be ok with the injustice of any kind. To read and educate ourselves and understand the differences and struggles others feel. To show up and be there for people of all races and differences and show them love no matter what.  To indeed be the example Christ set for us means no one gets excluded.  No one is different in God's eyes.  Every one of us needs love and deserves love and respect for us ... even when we don't show it in return.

Please take today and set aside some time to think.  I have enjoyed watching and reading outside my circle and learning more about others and their cultures and differences.  I honestly find it fascinating and, at the same time, disgusting that some are hated simply because of their beliefs and the color of their skin.

May we honor Dr. King today.  Maybe just in some quiet time, or maybe in something more significant.
