Pay it forward ...

A couple of weeks ago Mrs. News Reading had a pay it forward post. I was selected and today I received an adorable happy in the mail. Then I remembered ... oh smack ... I forgot to pay it forward.

Better late than never ...

Post about your worst gift ever received ... and the best comment gets a happy ...

I will start ... I am not sure which gift was worst ... the $5 Starbucks card from Lawyer for my birthday ($5???) or the large bag of pistachios for Christmas two years ago???

They both sucked!!!

What is the worst gift you have received???

  1. Oh, just thinking about it makes me say WTH? My BIL and SIL gave me one of those battery operated bathroom scrubbers, for Christmas several years ago! I had a hard time even saying thank you! If you knew me it would be even funnier as I DO NOT like to clean!

  2. The worst gift that I have ever received, was a crocheted cover for an air freshener. Even if I were not asthmatic, I would not be decorating with crochet in doll form.

I wouldn't be surprised if my MIL gave me this in hopes that the air freshener would trigger an asthma attack and I would die. Yep, she likes me that much!

  5. The worst gift I ever received was tickets to a comedian from the hubby. The reason it was the worst gift?? I had NO clue who this dude was and he really got them for himself and a buddy because he knew I would refuse to go listen to some douche bag. Why didn't he just buy the tickets for himself to begin with and get me something else?!?! Who knows!!

  7. I received a "used" gift from my SIL. I was making conversation with her one day and mentioned that I liked the French Bulletin Board that she had in the kitchen...so she gave it to me for Christmas...with a note saying that she wanted a new one!

  9. Wow I think Scarlet O'Kara and I have the same SIL...
I was at my SIL's house in October and told her that I like this picture frame she had in her family room with a picture of my nephews in it. Well on Christmas morning I opened up my gift from her and wouldn't you know it she wrapped up the frame, picture and all. She also gave me an old purse of hers. She siad it looked so me and she was done using it so better to pass it along to me than to the Goodwill.
NICE huh? Next year she is getting coal from me!

  11. It's a toss up...the plastic tray set and paper napkins from my mil or the present that was never given, my mother told my husband to get me an ironing board this year for Christmas. Thankfully he knows better. I can buy my own ironing boards!

  15. on behalf of my mum, one year when I was young [too young to influence his present buying!] my father not only bought her a suitcase for christmas because 'we needed a new one' but he also got her a massive stapler for a similar reason - she was a lucky girl that year!

  16. I have received so many awful gifts, where do I begin. My daughter received a stocking one year from my cousin with somebody else's name written on the inside of the stocking (obviously used). I have received crocheted pot holders and wash cloths done in various shades of orange and browns. Every year from my inlaws I always get the ugliest Christmas decoration as presents from Kohls with no gift receipts and half the time the tags have been removed. (It's her way of making sure I can't return them. haha) One year I got a lava lamp/thermoter from my sister in law. But the most memorable one was a wedding gift - a gold framed mirror with some kind of oriental girl in the background of the mirror. That "accidently" got dropped.

  17. As a wedding gift 8 years ago we received a 'figurine' of the Pope at the alter with his arms spread wide. It was about 18 inches tall & including the alter maybe a foot wide. You know like the ones you see in the coupon section of the Sunday paper... I tried to donate it to the church & they wouldn't even take it. Father said, "I am not sure where I would put it.." yeah, me either.........
I have no idea where it is today. I left it at my mom's house.
Oh yeah, If I am not mistaken I think it may have lit up as well.

  18. Hmmm...I have a few.
I got a bathroom scale for Christmas one year! Apparently I mentioned that I needed one, so my parents wrapped it up!!!!
For our wedding, we received brass candle sticks with WAX still in them - obviously a regift! And while we were dating, the Hubby gave me 2 glade candles and a bartenders bible - wrapped in a WALMART bag of all things!

  19. My worst gift was from my grandmother - bless her heart - so I am not sure it counts but we still laugh about it! One Christmas not too long ago, I got a long bouquet of very fake and very plastic poinsettias. My mom, DH nor myself could figure out what I was supposed to do with it. My mom thought it was to be on a table runner on a dining room table. Tripp, well, he thought it should decorate the trashcan and then I read the box that it was wired into. "Smith florals - beautifying your loved ones final resting place for 50 years." Oh yes, it was a floral arrangement for a headstone. And to top it all off - the plastic flowers were dusty like draw pictures on the petals dusty! 'Cuz you know nothing says Merry Christmas like some flowers for a headstone!

  20. I can not post about mine because my mother in law reads it. But that said it would be either the glass brick (2 years ago) that she carved a hole out of and stuck little white lights in and then tied a gold foil bow around with a silk rose attached OR the large wine bottle that I received this year with the hole, the lights and this time straw tied to the top. Sad thing all the wine was gone so I did not even get to enjoy the cheap wine.

  21. I could tell you it was the used make up from one of my students (lived in low-income housing) however I think the DUSTBUSTER I opened last year from my husband tops my list! I still give him crap about it and am sure I will for years to come. He says it was a joke, but I don't believe him - would you?

And Julie, you had me laughing about the flowers for the headstone!
